Jon S. Von Tetzchner – Thank You!

By on May 25, 2006

One Million and I swear I will swim!! Well he did not swim one million miles but you do have to love him for the thought and the effort! Opera has been around forever and you do have to love the fact it is compatible with every device imaginable! Opera 9 is a major paradigm shift as far as what you would expect out of a browser. Previously you would expect this functionality out of a web 2.0 page or more likely an operating system? They have beaten all the odds FireFox is great but it leaks memory like no other just monitor it.. They have successfully integrated not only widgets but also a BitTorrent client directly in the browser the rest is history! Just look they will have a million clients just by the fact they are incoperated into the highly anticipated Wii console! Enjoy your success Jon!

Portal..

I also wanted to briefly discuss the e-mail below. I wanted to point out we are using blogs for some student organizations (student senate). We also have a simple method of keeping track of the content. The news aggregator on the Intranet actually links and displays student blog content through rss feeds when you click on the content you will go directly to the blog.

Open Movie

By on May 23, 2006

Elephants Dream is an open source movie using Blender 3D! Blender is an excellent product for 3-D hobbyists and pros. The Blender 3D suite has done certainly improved its popularity since it became open source. You can create very sophisticated animations with blender and it also has its own physics engine. You can also use blender to create interactive 3d content as well. I have used blender 3d to create graphics and other experiments. I do believe the Orange team has done well with their movie and I recommend a look it is very interesting.

In other 3d news Google assimilated Sketch Up. Sketch Up is an extremely intuitive 3Dmensional modeling program you can also use it with Google earth. I would also recommend checking it out as well.

SunGard HE

By on May 23, 2006

Well I sat threw an interesting conference on SungardSCT Higherlearning today. It seems the people at Sungard have been busy. At the college I work for they utlize powercampus and IQ web. These products enable the college to do a wide array of tasks ranging from admissions to advancement. They finally look like they have created a good product one that takes full advantage of Web 2.0! This almost seems impossible to anyone who has worked with their products. They have become a microsoft gold partner and are utilizing share point technology. They are in the midsts of creating a blackboard killer. The portal system they have constructed is way cool to say the least. One logon will get you great plains, powerfaids, IQ Web, PowerCampus, in short the whole ball of wax!! They have also been dilgently working on Polaris the next iteration of IQ Web! Lets just say this it looks like the extranet you always wanted!!
