Indie Game Developer

By on June 29, 2006

If you are into creating indie video games in your spare time either because you are bored or into suffering in general OS X does have some great tools for 3d video game creation! To start off with you don’t have to start from scratch. Anyone who can probably needs to get out more.. You can use tools like Unity and Torque. These tools are both professional quality and produce quality work on a low budget. You can also use the open source modeler Blender with either of these programs. Both engines allow you to create web multiplayer games to an extent so it might be worth a small investment to at least play around with them also keep in mind you can always download the quake engine or the unreal engines to use as well. So the developer/artiest does have decent tools that are readily available to suit your creative thoughts!

Campus Map

By Brendon Smith on June 29, 2006

The campus map needs to be re-done. We have a new map and I have created a map application. The map application will allow the user to zoom in or out, click on hot spots are designated on the map currently as blue pulsating loops (hot spots fill the picture window with a panoramic picture, or photo, when they click it, this will also change the text). The user can also move the map. We will need a list of building, text, and new pictures. I have some panoramic that will most likely need to change. We can fill it up right now with photographs and take some panoramic pictures as well. I also think we need a printable map with all the written content so if some one chooses they can save it, and print it. Steps for completion new photos and panoramic pictures, text, slight design modifications after that the only thing that will be needed is a pop-up window to the project! This is a prime example of the kind of projects I enjoy working on!

Apollo Project

By Brendon Smith on June 29, 2006

The end of the desktop has been upon us for awhile now but Adobe is really getting their ducks in order. If you have noticed lately they release Flex 2 which supports Action Script 3 and MXML (Introduced by Adobe/Macromedia for the Flex line). They have had the beta available for download for some time so if you didn’t take advantage of the Beta I guess it kind of sucks to be you.. (Kidding) If you have been paying attention to Microsoft and its sparkle (Interactive Designer) uses XAML. I guess I would compare MXML to XAML because they do share many similarities. The benefit of using MXML is of course you don’t have to have the windows presentation foundation running on your machine it just uses the flash player! Adobe had been focusing all of it energy toward the Apollo Project its goal to render the desktop obsolete. Flash has had the ability for awhile now to create executables that connect to the internet and gather information. When you combine Flash with Flex you have the ability to create enterprise level applications. I can see flex being used in the financial area soon it has a seemingly endless shelf life and a massive amount of potential. I am also excited to see flex working with PHP relatively easily! They also demoed a Flex interface for Drupal recently. So the next wave of web applications is almost here in the next few years the web will rapidly change and hopefully become what it was originally intended for connecting us all easily and cost efficiently! I highly recommend getting a Flex server it has vast potential.

Omalinc No More Soon Enough..

By on June 26, 2006

Well I have teamed up with Rafal and James we will be creating omahahipster.com. Our plan is simple have fun bring traffic to bars, events, etc.. Kind of like an emo version of OmahaNightLife.com. I am confident that the three of us can create some fun content for the public to consume. This change will take place over the next few weeks!

Walmart or Walocaust

By Brendon Smith on June 25, 2006

Well Lisa and I went to Walmart (walocaust) today. There were all sorts of obnoxious happy faces that surrounded the store. They were awful to say the least, as if anyone could possibly be that excited to be in Walmart. The happy faces remind me personally of the Happy Face Murders a movie released in 1999. The movie is actually based on a true story. I am unaware of any involvement of the walmarts and the movie at this time. I do find it ironic that they chose a serial killers logo for their logo??? Wierd?? On top of the obnoxious happy faces they had these big brother like video installments throughout the store reminding you about what you didn't need and didn't care to hear, to make matters worse if you actually looked at the video it moved the tracking was off and no one seemed to care… We did find some cheap paint brushes and made a dash toward the cash register.
