The Work..

By on July 25, 2006

Well many people ask me how can you possibly do so much? The answer is practice. I can handle the administration side, hardware, server configuration, programming and design! For the college I work for I am an all in one wonder. I have to take care of numerous systems. I am very handy with active directory, exchange, vnc, flash, photoshop, dreamweaver, etc.. I can troubleshoot your problems remotely and I don’t believe in ever working hard because I can work smart. I also love to play with new and emerging technologies in my spare time (granted that is not all I do). Lately I have been working on re-creating the college of Saint Mary campus map and I do believe it is coming along well, experimenting with various content management systems, like dotnetnuke (.net/iis), magnolia (j2ee/tomcat), and Eribium (ruby on rails/webrick). I have a through understanding of many other content management systems and configuring them to fit others needs. I enjoy making my projects work on a variety of browsers and operating systems. I also always backup my work. I have also created a movie to show you the College Intranet and other personal systems illustrating hosting on some of my local boxes operating as backups.

Weekend Stuff

By on July 23, 2006

This weekend has been busy I went out with Rafal and Dusty on Friday to our usual hangouts Sullivan's and Brothers played some pool and called it an evening. Yesterday Lisa and I went to her family reunion in Seward and that was a good time especially the Volleyball. After that we rented a few movies and hung out at home. I have to admit I was a little apprehensive about one of the picks “Family Stone” but I was thoroughly impressed after viewing the film not only does it have a good cast the movie is actually pleasing to watch and fun as well. Sunday is reserved for blogging and Hockey. I had this urge today to create the worlds worst web page with geocities. I don't know if any of you out their remember geocities it is a placed specifically reserved on the web for the most part for the worst possible content. So I immediately told myself I was going to create an extremely heinous web page and a nice web page with geocities just for fun to stave off boredom. So here is the worlds worst web site and here is a slightly tolerable web site created at no cost. I also met with Jerry and Wurgler Photography may not only have a new website soon but it may also be doing some hosting and that is where the fun is. So we will see. It is beautiful out so I can’t blog anymore today. See Ya, later..

Blender 3d 2.42

By Brendon Smith on July 23, 2006

Improvements on Blender 3d recently the blender community release Blender 2.42 the new version vastly enhances Blender 3d. You might have heard of the Open Movie project. The Open Movie by Orange is extremely well done you would know if you have seen it. It is an excellent advertisement for precisely what is enticing about the open source community. While creating the movie the artist gave Ton some suggestions on improving the interface, physic engine, node hierarchy, etc.. Many exciting new changes have been added into the new build that enhances the user experience making it a little easier for a newbie to get a grasp on the tools they have. I have always thought Blender was a worthy project. I remember donating to the Blender Foundation to open the source. It was well worth my money.

Here are a few of the new improvements:

Character Animation Tools:

Some features were in use during the Orange project that didn't make it in the 2.41 release. This includes "Custom Bones", to create useful 3d interfaces to manipulate Armatures, and support for "Bone Layers", allowing you to organize a rig much better.

The Nodes UI:

Description of the new Node Editor and all aspects of working with Nodes and linking them.

Generic Node editing system:

Technical notes about the implementation of Blender's node system. This is used now for Shading and Compositing, but allows future expansion in many different areas.

Game engine and physics:

The game engine new physics engine – Bullet – has been improved the past 6 months a lot.

August 7th Keynote Speculation..

By on July 14, 2006

So everyone wants 2 know what exactly is next?? We know what to expect like OS X 10.5 Leopard. What we would like to know about is the mac mini laptop will it become a reality? Will there be an iphone or is it an imaginary creation of the media like all those Palm / Nintendo buy out rumors?? I think it would be sweet if Apple moves in the mobile direction the world wasn’t ready for the Newton but the time is right now for mobile the fact the iPod is doing so well should be reassurance. I really don’t care if they buy Palm or Nintendo although it would be pretty cool if they did buy Nintendo. Apple has had some bad experience in the gaming arena but I do think it would be great if they assimilated Nintendo to compete directly with Sony. Sometimes I do think Sony will tank it self just like the old beta format I don’t know if Sony has the ability to market what they have. They are touting their playstation 3 as better than a Mac Mini?

After Newton was dropped as an apple project many of the people that created the Palm were originally working on Newton so it would make some sense to acquire them. Palm does have great software for handwriting recognition. Microsoft as been diligently working on its Argo project whatever it is? Supposedly they are poised to kill the iPod although I don’t see it happening. In recent news apple is also rumored to make .mac free that would be good news. It would be wonderful if they would offer their .mac service for free it would attract gobs of new users. So let us know what you think Apple will release!!
