I managed to have a great weekend(about a month ago now) in Lincoln. I took over a hundred photographs and several panoramic photographs all over Lincoln. Lisa biked in the MS Bike ride. We both had a wonderful time. Saturday I got to see Ian and Casey’s new baby girl Jillian. We let off some fireworks and then Lisa and I went to O’Roukes downtown. We also got a chance to see the http://www. theselfrighteousbrothers.com/ play for the Zoo Bar’s 35th Anniversary so in short it was a blast. It will be awhile before I get all the photographs posted. The MS Bike ride was a blast.
I have also been playing around with Papervision3D lately. I have been really spending a great deal of time familiarizing myself with it. I have been especially taken by TagGalxay.de it is a great example of a 3D Mashup. In short I really like this example and have been working really hard to create something similar that does not use Flickr. I have also been studying this tutorial off of Edge. This tutorial gives you the knowledge to create a globe that can handle markers as a result you can plot points on the globe and use this bit of code to help you create a mashup (although I haven’t I do feel I will post one soon enough). In short I belive that Flash has finally matured I love ActionScript 3 and I am becoming more and more comfortable with it.
I have also noticed Google released Lively (quietly). Lively is a 3D environment that is relatively similar to Second Life. People on other blogs I have noticed have reacted rather harshly to Lively. Many of them bash on the graphics. I personally like it and see it first as a beta and secondly it is a google product. Second Life is a good product but I have much more confidence in google to create a better experience in the long run. It is not hard to see that google will create an ecosystem around their on-line 3d technologies. It makes sense with google earth, sketchup, and now Lively. Plus lets not forget how many people have google accounts it makes it easy for them to take advantage of lively. One thing I like about lively is it’s simplicity. It is not overly complicated and I can see lots of people being able to use it because the hardware requirements are made with the lowest common denominator in mind. It looks to me like google took the flash player and created their own custom player(you know the flash player is open source now). I know they are using flex within lively because I can see it load flex content within the player. I personally am looking forward to an api release for lively. My bet is sketchup will be able to create virtual worlds and users will be able to extend them with Ruby. It’s just a guess though.
