Reflection on the Wedding

By Brendon Smith on August 23, 2008

Life is short so it’s not important to get the small things in life correct but the big picture.  First of all I would like to clarify my speech at the wedding let me reiterate no I am not dead Beth.  Let me make a big blaring point out of this your possessions can always be taken away and you will be left with one thing and that is what people say about you when your not in the room.  It is not what you have that defines you as an individual but the impression you make on others after all their really is one of two things people will do and say about you when your not around they will either be thankful or regretful simple enough but complicated.  So what does life take it takes balance.  It is not good for an individual to be closed off and not open to new ideas.  One has too look at everyday as an opportunity to improve not only themselves but those around them.  It was mentioned at the wedding that sometimes I spend upwards of 16 hrs on the computer a day that is not everyday.  I still manage to workout, walk the dog, cook (sometimes yes I am getting better at it).  Let me mention that Lisa is the driving force in the balance of my life she compliments me in ways that no one else does.  Let me mention that when I think of Lisa I first have to compare her to all of the strong willed women that have shaped my life to this point and let me mention them in order.  The head of the family has always been Florence Stebbins my great grandma.  She contributed a great deal to our family structure.  She single handily ran a turkey ranch and managed to grow an implement business that stretches from here to Oregon, had a large garden that was immaculate, and extremely creative she had pottery, painting, etc…  She was also known for her stubbornness.  So I have learned to always strive for more and seek out perfection from her she was not good at a few things but many in life and she will always be missed.  Marilyn Dean grandma Dean was a librarian and she showed me early in life that most if not all the answers are freely available to anyone who can read the fine print in the public library.  She was a great lover of knowledge and her mountain of books helped shape my imagination and still does to this day.  Kate Smith grandma Smith may not always remember your name but you have never met someone with such patience and kindness of heart.  She has worked everyday of her life never slowed down and is still the life of the party.  She has taught me that it is essential to work and be patient with others even when you think they are impossible to deal with and have a sense of humor when you go about difficult situations.  Elizabeth Gleason (my mom) she has instilled in me a drive to never give up never stop only work harder and constantly improve your work.  She used to drill it into me as a child and always took me to museums and made a very well cultured individual at an early age.  Made sure I could type well because my handwriting was awful and encouraged me to seek my greatest potential.  Mary Dean seek perfection in your garden. She does spend about 2 hours in her garden everyday and it is a site to see.  You learn from her hobby because you see it trickle down in every aspect of her life it is not just a garden it’s a garden of life and with that you have challenges everyday to overcome.  You can also see her motivation at work she doesn’t settle for mediocre she is constantly striving toward perfection.  Try new things don’t be afraid to try new foods you never know what your going to like or dislike and that is why you should force yourself sometimes to explore and try new things.  Work out, wake up early, make long lasting friends and have invite them over for spirits on the weekend.  Have pets because they make life more exciting.  Terry Smith (my other mom) have patience for those even if you think they may be beyond redemption and forgive them.  So the reason why I choose Lisa is obvious she has all of these characteristics so that is what I would have liked to have said for the speech if I was given a second opportunity.   We will post our wedding photos soon.  I would also like to thank everyone who helped out. Janice Tedrow for all of her hard work on the flowers and helping prepare in general:) Thanks everything came together extremely well (we heard lots of comments on the flowers). Jim Burger and Arron Kochanowicz for all their hard work and musical help.  We will send you thank you cards soon with gifts.  You guys did an excellent job and it was greatly appreciated thank you.  Elizabeth Gleason, Steve Gleason, Michael Smith, Terri Smith, Mark Linder, Mary Dean, and Stephanie O’Keefe thank you for all your hard work on the prenuptial dinner and wedding showers.  Everything went extremely well and we are extremely thankful for all of your hard work.   I will be posting more photographs they will be up on this site and Fiorghra.
