3D enthusiast will be pleased to know that John Carmack posted on /. Slash dot he will be open sourcing quake 3. For those out there what this means simply is you will be able to alter the source code for any personal use. Open source software is cool because you can modify it and make it better. Quake 3 is an excellent engine to play with. This is a pleasant gift. I also highly recommend anyone who likes to tinker with 3D to get Blender. Blender 3D is a powerful 3D suite that is capable of creating beautiful work. Blender 3D also has a physics engine (so you can create interactive 3D for the web). Anyway if you combine Blender 3D and Quake 3D open source you will easily be able to create something cool if you have time.
